Whistler - Antics

This is the Jersey Cream lift on Blackcomb Mountain

This is me :)

We rode up in style

The Tellus Festival, Whistler's end of season party was kicking off near the end of our trip.

There is plenty of night life in the Whistler Village

We took a limo up to Whistler from the Vancouver Airport. We all left Whistler a different times on a bus ride back to Vancouver Airport.

These are Whistler's Olympic rings, they were just outside of our condo

Waiting for my ride to Vancouver it was 60 degrees at the base. From the Whistler Village you can only see a fraction of the mountains there so big.

As you can see there is no snow on the bottom but there is plenty right up there.

Just behind Whistler Mountain is the Black Tusk.

Notice the difference after 10 days of riding :)

I tear this run up, the wind noise is a little much you may want to turn down your volume. Light fluffy snow with some Avalanche debris and moguls. This is way steeper then it looks!

Whistler - Peak to the Creek

Marchwick's Fly By... Snow was prefect on this part of the mountain, on this day, at this time :)

This place is FUN!  Everywhere you look there is another new area to ride! When you can see, that is:)
The conditions change frequently on these mountains. Everyday some part of the mountain got a couple of inches of snow, you just need to go find it.

Howard cruses down the Glacier

Whistler Mountain Lodge... It was nice in the sun that day.. I had a slight injury to my "hip flexor" and need a T3 with a couple of beers, I was back in action.
Marchwick would switch to Evil Chris when he wore his black coat. Good Chris and Evil are picking very different lines down Symphony Bowl.

The Peak to Creek runs is just like it sounds, from the top of Whistler Peak to the Creek side village below. 5000 vertical feet in just under an hour of straight down riding! Snow conditions weather conditions always changing.  So we start in light fluffy powder transition into icy area then end in velvety slush that is easy to ride.

Marchwick is following me with his helmet cam. (which he broke off, and we had to re engineer on the fly with duck tape) It's a higher quality video so I can only upload short periods of time. The lower quality video is take from my Droid.

Marchwick on top of a cornice. Which he drops off nicely. I took the lower right side at a pretty good chip, and didn't really know how big it was.:) The snow was just perfect here in the back bowls of Whistler.

A slightly shorter version on the Peak to Creek run, is a 3 mile lap drops about 4000 vertical feet down to the Big Red high speed quad, ride that up. Then you bomb the short traverse to the Peak Chair and your back on top in 20 min. The temperature will change about 30+ degrees during the lap. About a 1 hour total lap time

Chris Howard, the man who will tear up any icy mogul run has some reservations about the 8 man gondola Peak to Peak tram.

7th Heaven - Blackcomb Mt.

We could not get enough of this area :) 7th heaven is only a small part of Blackcomb mountain ( but bigger then some entire ski resorts by itself)

This is the first day, we came down a couple hundred yards down the hill.
The wind noise is a little much, the snow is a lot better then is sounds.

This is the very bottom of 7th heaven, trees where getting a little thick, I had to put the camera down for my own safety.

This where you start and finish the run. besides Blackcomb Peak, the whole bowl is open!

So the other side of this mountain is Horstman's Glacier. Killer run as well but this dumps you into a very high traffic area of Jersey Cream and Glacier Lift. You have to traverse though this tunnel to get to there.

Howard's pretty run down the Glacier

WHISTLER / BLACKCOMB DAY ONE

Our Whistler trip covered 10 days of travel. Six of those days where spent snowboarding on the mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. These monster mountains chewed up Josh. First fun, first turn... TORN ACL!  He needed to take the dead sled all the way down.

After a $1000 for MRI, $1000 for the ER, and $1000 for the brace. Josh was hurt on verity of levels.

So we enter into the Whistler bowl for the first time in 10 years and in looked so COOL. I just wanted to sit down and get my camera out. The spot I picked to sit down, was the choke point for the entire bowl. So I had skiers and Marchwick dogging my dumb ass.:) Forcing them to bail into the step bowl below, HA HA

Josh said he will come back to conquer this resort :) Amazingly the grumpy bastard kept his spirits up the whole trip. Thanks Josh, for all the meals ya, cooked at the condo.

MORE TO COME!!
